Can the German national anthem be replaced? In his latest work, which will be premiered at HF#7, the composer Daniel Dominguez Teruel follows the melody and addresses the societal overwhelmingness in dealing with the anthem.
National anthems are odes, praises, and longings set to music. They are love songs dedicated to the nation, folk hymns, and bloody war songs. When a nation is proclaimed, its anthem becomes an acoustic monument. Today they seem like relics from 18th and 19th century Europe.
Together with musicians and the German flag-waving champions, he transforms the German national anthem starting from the melody, shifts it harmonically, superimposes and interweaves it with contemporary pop music, baroque trombones, and electronic chants. The boiler hall of Hamburg's former Bille combined heat and power station (1901) - a modernist industrial monument and World War II ruin - becomes a meditative sound body.
Following the screening Hauptsache Verliebt - The Daily Update of the festival with news, gossip and talk: What were the Love Moments😘 and Hot Topics🤑 of the day? Just stay seated after the show!
