In his research project »The Great Report«, Hamburg-based choreographer Moritz Frischkorn joint forces with artists from different fields. Together, they traveled to the central hubs of global logistics. In a joint installation of sound, film, photo works and text, they document their journey and draw a complex picture of the well-choreographed exploitation structures of global capitalism and their own complicity.
On the various journeys with photographer Robin Hinsch, filmmaker Paula Hildebrandt and sound artist Nour Sokhon, he examined the darker side of the hyperobject of global logistics. They brought with them images of oil spills in the Niger Delta, a film about the ceaseless search for paradise on Crete, and a polyphonic sound installation about a lack of waste management and land reclamation in Beirut.
One year later, Frischkorn takes stock: in a lecture-performance, he reflects on his role, grief, and complicity in the very capitalist structures of exploitation he outlines, noting that any attempt at mapping is doomed to failure. The live lecture will take place at 5pm.
In the Harburger Kunstverein, festival visitors can also follow the traces of their research, which tell a story of the control mechanisms of world trade, our dependence on resources, but also of the search for moments of carelessness and collectively instilled hope. 'The Great Report' uses photos, films, sounds and the choreographer's self-reflection to create a multi-layered picture of the privileged Western position in the web of global trade processes.
The lecture is available in our online library.
Moritz Frischkorn works as a choreographer, performer and theoretician in the field of contemporary performing arts. His artistic and curatorial practice deals with choreographies of objects and their social and political dimensions. He develops research-oriented projects and artistic practices that question individual, human expression and Western privileges.
