Blacklivesmatter, #metoo, #actout have arrived in the German Arts and Culture sphere. But what is part of a cultural practice and policy that is critical of discrimination and power? What (cultural policy) strategies are there to reduce discrimination in the arts and cultural sector and to what extent can institutions of the independent arts scene contribute to this? We will give a brief insight into our work with Diversity Arts Culture in Berlin and outline tips for ones own art practice. Afterwards there will be time for exchange and questions.
Diversity Arts Culture is the conceptual and advisory office for diversity development in Berlin's cultural sector. The project office was established in 2017 by the Senate Department of Culture and Europe to encourage and promote diversity-oriented structural change in Berlin's cultural sector. Its tasks include advising cultural institutions and the cultural administration on diversity issues. The project office develops anti-discrimination and training workshops for cultural workers as well as opportunities to empower marginalised artists. It also commissions the collection of equality data, which highlights the need for action in the cultural sector.
Diversity Arts Culture is part of the Foundation for Cultural Education and Cultural Consultancy.
