The lockdown of cultural life in 2020 & 2021 has, on the one hand, exposed problems that were or could have been known about beforehand. On the other hand, it has also raised awareness of the uniqueness of theater as an art of assembly and encounter, provoking action in solidarity and unexpected solutions. And now? How do we go on after the crisis? Is it possible to learn from these experiences? The Impulse Theater Festival, for 30 years the most important platform for independent theater in the German-speaking world, was also unable to take place as planned for the second time in June. Last year, the festival already launched the publication "Learning from the Lockdown?" (published by Alexander Verlag, Berlin, edited by Haiko Pfost, Wilma Renfordt and Falk Schreiber for the NRW KULTURsekretariat). Numerous independent theater professionals and cultural politicians have contributed articles to the book about their insights, ideas and demands gained from the Corona crisis. The topics range from funding policy and social security to the fundamental right of artistic freedom and digitality to the vulnerability of the body in the theater space. Hamburg journalist Falk Schreiber discusses some of the book's theses and aspects with Anja Kerschkewicz, artist and part of the curatorial team of the Hauptsache Frei festival.
