Perished worlds are places of longing. Inspired by the radio plays of Bertold Brecht and Hanns Eisler, the music theatre piece Futuradio plays virtuously with the theme of dystopian visions in its radio play version. The collage of drama, music, and sound art presents the everyday life of a destroyed world in which people are connected solely by radio.
In the not too distant future, the Elbe metropolis is flooded. From a ruin jutting out of the sea, one of the TAUCHER*FUNK broadcasts its programme live from the year 2087. The presenters collect sound artefacts, discover sound fragments of the past that are our present.
After the so-called »catastrophe years«, society is in the process of reorganising itself. What are people's realities and dreams? What does the world of the future look like and how did it come about? With the help of musical finds from past centuries, interviews with experts, and memories of robots that have appeared, the radio makers try to reconstruct history and understand its present.
The audio play is available in our online library.
FUTURADIO is an episodic project by Len Pappe and the crew of TAUCHER*FUNK. Len's artistic works address listening as an active and collectivising process in a wide variety of formats. In FUTURADIO she and the crew of Taucher*Funk explore approaches to collective composition and authorship.
For the radio play version of 2021, Len orchestrated an acoustic stage set of experimental future pianos, which are played by the performers. TAUCHER*FUNK consists of artists* from the fields of theatre, visual arts, performance, sound art, and music.
