Corona presented challenges to artists around the world: How to rehearse under curfew? A duo with spacing rules? Why dance without an audience? Yolanda Gutiérrez accompanied four Hamburg choreographers in their everyday life during the pandemic and in developing their own »dance spaces« at home and in the city at the beginning of the shutdown around spring 2020. Between cancellations of premieres and homeschooling, existential fears, and hopes for a new beginning, the artists talk about their strategies for dealing with the pandemic.
»My Dance Space« is a sensitive portrait of the Hamburg dance scene, which despite the restrictions of the pandemic has not given up its love of dance. The film is an exemplary reflection on how differently the early days of the Corona Lockdown in March/April 2020 were experienced, what tensions arose, and what energies were released.
