Choreographic layers emerge from a gravitational field, repeating themselves, revealing geometric grids and forming polyphonic rhythms. Space becomes movement, a wave, a field. Space happens and we become part of the event. Maria Zimpel’s choreographic research references quantum physics, quantum gravity and perception in motion. Using modular choreographic systems, she releases physicality to create her own dance language. Space becomes movement and the body becomes space. Can you hear space dancing?

Maria Zimpel studied dance and choreography at the HZT of the University of the Arts in Berlin. In her work, she explores the boundaries of physicality and focuses primarily on developing her own language of movement.
She explores dance as an elemental force that creates and transforms places. Places are not static. They appear and disappear, open and close according to the quality of the actions they contain. The idea of place as a dance-based event is explored through movement and the dialogue between music, light, space and dance art.
