Numerous independent cultural institutions in Hamburg are striving to further develop their buildings and are applying for public funds for this purpose, including the monsun.theatre for its barrier-free conversion. What starts out as a promising, forward-looking project increasingly turns into a complicated web of building authority requirements, inspections, calls for funding and the sensitivities of all parties involved.
With the aim of influencing the cityscape in terms of cultural policy and preserving Hamburg's diverse cultural landscape, cultural institutions often begin a struggle for structural implementation. In the case of publicly funded building projects, the administrative regulations of the VV-Bau can collide with the real building site situation.
Cultural institutions and experts will enter into an exchange and discussion under the guidance of freelance cultural journalist Falk Schreiber: What pitfalls result from the building authority process and the requirements of the VV-Bau? Is there a need to adapt the procedural system so that subsidised consultation and system control for cultural institutions can emerge? A starting signal for an initiative in which cultural institutions receive expert advice and support from the application to the completion of the building project.
