March or blockade: does the alarm entail standing up, or rather staying seated? In her latest solo performance, which premiered at TD Berlin 2019, Antje Pfundtner asks the fundamental question of what is worth standing up for and when we are better off staying seated.
Usually, stage people rise when the audience takes a seat to watch and listen to them. After pieces about the motives for beginning and ending, this time choreographer Antje Pfundtner prefers to stand up only when she thinks it is right. To rise, to make room, to take action, to rehearse the uprising: Who says you have to stand up to speak out and, conversely, what does staying seated mean?
»Platz nehmen« was written in autumn 2019 in response to the celebrated premiere of her solo play »Sitzenbleiben ist eine gute Idee«, the last part of her melancholic trilogy about the laws of time and transience. Antje Pfundtner goes into rehearsed riot with her well-known wit of language and movement, looking for shared moments with the audience, letting them help her up, gurgling in celebration of the Freude schöner Götterfunken, only to find the right moment to speak up. Each evening, a different dynamic emerges in cooperation with the audience. At HF#7, »Platz nehmen« will be shown for the first time in Hamburg.
This performance is available in our online library.
